I ,like another reader, gave a sub-perfect rating because the answers to section reviews were not in the back of the book or on the authors website. That helps when you can validate what you’ve learned.

Other than that, I feel that this work is fantastic and it really gave me the confidence needed to make attempts at optimizing C-level source code. I no longer get that empty feeling when I look at assembly source that once made me feel as though there was another universe out there that I could peer into but would never understand its existence. I don’t believe that a book is finished until I’ve read it cover to cover.

I once made an attempt completing this book some years back for a course and just couldn’t stomach. Everything was going well until about chapter 6 and then I just sort of tired out. After staggering through the first chapter wandering aimlessly, I realized that I’d need to go back and get a better working knowledge of how assembly actually works.

So I went ahead and purchased a physical copy as the first attempt was through e-book and began to power through chapter by grueling chapter.

What I realized this time axsembleur though was that it was a lot easier the second time and where I had originally stopped was actually the “Eureka point” where everything started to make sense. By the way, I’ve bought probably over 50 books from Amazon over the years mostly computer books and this is my first review EVER.

Half way through the book and the material is sound.

My reason for rating it lower is not having the answers available at the end of the chapter. After reaching out, it’s apparently since the publisher doesn’t want that material to leak since it can be used for college level quizes, etc. Well, i’m not a college student, and i find that being able to validate what i’ve leared a helpful thing.

Without the answers, it’s sometimes hard to validate that. They need to find a way to make that work. Do not recommend buying Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. Okay, so the kindle version is completely broken. If you know what a truth table is prior to this, you may be able to decode that. Now that Kip has removed a lot of the dependence on the custom libraries, this is hands down the very best book on Assembly Language, and I’ve read quite a few.

Please do not base your opinions on previous releases of this series. This one 7th Edition is a homerun! I used this instead of the latest edition in my assembly language class.

It is almost the same, minus one chapter about stuff my class didn’t cover anyway. Very good book and not too expensive to rent.

Good book if your class requires it. I was required by my university to asdembleur a class on assembly programming, and this was the book for the course.

Overall, the book does a great job explaining concepts to beginners, though in some parts it can get a bit tedious. Has examples of application all throughout, as well as practice problems for each section and chapter.

Overall though, I would recommend this book! One person found this helpful. This was a pleasant walk through the fundamentals of Assembly programming. See all 64 reviews.
