Nov 22, Sunny rated it it was amazing Shelves: I thought this was an incredible book about education written in In this book he looks at education as the universal trap, what progressive education looked like, programmed education, science in education, getting a job and in the letter part of the book he offers potential alternative solutions. Some of the points are so mind-blowingly different it’s unreal.
An excellent iconoclastic work, that remains amazingly timely in its fiftieth year. That said, educators are such pessimistic folk. Many of the things that Goodman claims will spell the doom of humanity within ten or twenty years did not turn out to do so, but the very same issues are being claimed now to certainly spell the doom of humanity in the next ten or twenty years.
Something tells me that schools will continue to be profoundly broken, students will continue to survive them, and the sun An excellent iconoclastic work, that remains amazingly timely in its fiftieth year.

Oct compylsory, 0spinboson rated it really liked it. Quite nice, thought-provoking book about how you might reorganize education. Having said that, I found it a bit puzzling to read Goodman already considered the system as it was in the s untenable, when it’s gotten so much worse since.

It is somewhat dated though misexucation proposals would likely still improve things greatly today and probably not an essential read for anyone who has read Goodman’s Growing Up Absurd.
