I keep on marveling because this series was just so beautifully written. The last sentence of the fourth book in particular will stay with me, and it all was written in the same style: There was a lot of reflection in the last book, looking back at when Tony and Mac first met and started their relationship two years before, and it was so representative of reality, in that you look back, and almost can’t believe that they were the same two people as are closing out the series at the end.
Just like looking back in our own memories, we are stunned at how much we’ve changed. And Tony and Mac were just so real, I want to believe that they are alive. That is the true brilliance of this series They are both such great characters, and they work well to fill in each others’ gaps.
I loved how Mac and Tony were such great role models. For a great, successful relationship. For jobs they love and do well.
They are amazing, complex characters that challenge and overcome so many obstacles to their happiness. I won’t spoil the specifics from any of kaaje books, but the way they support each other and face everything like a real couple and family time and again was gorgeous I loved the supporting characters too, even the ones I didn’t actually lifee, because they all eventually played roles in the bigger picture.
From book one to four you meet new people who eventually become more prominent and link everything together. The story progressed and clicked to make a convincing life for Mac and Tony, and reading their alternating points of kajs helped endear them because you learned their characters so well. These books deal with a lot of dark subjects like child abuse, murder, serious injuries, bigotry, hatred and the like.
But the people support each other and face down the demons and bad people and together make everything right.
It turns dealing with these tough subjects into something hopeful and happy at the end. From their meeting in that kajr hallway, to the cases they solved, to abductions, to injuries, to revelations, to growing together, to helping others, to finally standing all together in that park in the last pages Tony and Mac’s story was wondrous and true and consuming.
They will remain as one of my favorite couples, and a great example of what real couples should be like. It was hard work, but they loved each other and their family, and they learned and struggled and made it work. All the books were fast-paced haroer filled with intriguing moments so I did not want to put the books down, and read the last two straight through.
I am going to miss them lessonx might just reread this series some day because all in kajw, it is one of the best, most inclusive stories about a couple.
It took many little battles and melded them together into hard-won victories that created their joined lives. It is well worth reading and savoring this series one book at a time. I encourage everyone to read them and enjoy their love! One person found this helpful.
Great continuation of the Life Lessons series. In this book 3Mac is working on a case of a murdered addict and finds it ties into something much bigger.
Meanwhile, he’s also enjoying life as being out and having something that he never thought was possible–a loving man and a family to raise.
I really like her style, especially harpeg she slides a character’s mental asides into the action and story. This is also one of the few series with kids that I’ve read and like.
Harper does a good job of keeping her kids realistic without being too sweet. At the same time, they don’t dominate the story, nor are there times when they’re just conveniently missing so the MCs can get it on. I always appreciate Harper’s attention to details, consistency, and realism. The MCs do find time to have sexy times, liife it’s at times around family obligations. If I had lfe down point, it’s that a lot of the leszons felt more focused on Mac and the case, so in a way, it reminded me more of a gay mystery with Mac as the lead detective, and at times Tony felt like the waiting boyfriend character that Mac lige go home to and bounce ideas off of.
Things change up later, especially during the last quarter, but it didn’t feel as balanced between Tony and Lifs as the other two books. I still liked it, but I guess I missed more Tony Time. With that being said, I don’t think Home Work suffers the syndrome that can hit later books in a series. I enjoyed it a lot; it adds new developments so is not unnecessary of “filler”, and I would happily recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the other books. I’m sure it could work well for you if you did dive into this one, but I strongly recommend that you check out the first book, Life Lessons, if you want to try this series.
Each book is great, and you’ll get all the story about how Mac and Tony meet, etc. Very enjoyable installment, and I dug the development and progressions, both the romantic-kind, and the kind that means that Mac and Tony have more work to do, but they’re so committed to each other, I’m not too worried about them.
Looking forward to book 4! But until then, I still have the 3. That can be found on the author’s website or on Smashwords. See all 46 reviews. Amazon Giveaway allows you to run promotional giveaways in order to create buzz, reward your audience, and attract new followers and customers.
