Ron Larson is a professor of mathematics at The Pennsylvania State University, where he has taught since He received his Ph.
Larson conducts numerous seminars and in-service workshops for math educators around the country about using computer technology as an instructional tool and motivational aid. Larson authors numerous textbooks including the best-selling Calculus series published by Cengage Learning. Would you like to albebra us about a lower price? This program balances theory with examples, applications, and geometric intuition for a complete, step-by-step learning system.
Allgebra a new design that highlights the relevance of the mathematics and improves readability, the Seventh Edition also incorporates new conceptual Capstone exercises that reinforce multiple concepts in each albebra.
Data and applications reflect current statistics and examples to engage users and demonstrate the link between theory and practice.

I’m taking Linear Algebra right now, and have long since left the lectures behind. The book pulls you along with exciting, unifying concepts for its whole length.
And since that’s exactly what I’ve done, I can say that this book is perfect for people who want to study the subject on their own without taking a class; it is comprehensive and clear, covering all of its material on its own without relying on a prof algebbra interpret.
In fact, every chapter ends with an entire section of nothing but applications! Larson relies heavily on proofs to support and also teach concepts.
The important theorems are all proven very clearly. Larson seems to keep in mind that his readers are there because they’re still learning the subject matter- something most math books forget when proving theorems for nothing but rigor’s sake. There are a few exercises in each section called “guided proofs” which require you to prove some interesting consequence of the section’s material and outline basic steps for you to take.
These exercises are really a brilliant device for helping students to really think instead of following step-by-step formulas. I would complain, however, that there are many un-guided proof exercises that are difficult and aren’t realistic to expect elementary linear algebra students to complete.
Still, reading this textbook is a real pleasure. It’s concise and powerful and, importantly, always illustrates all concepts with examples, in addition to the half-dozen-to-dozen general examples for each section. I really like the layout and presentation of subject matter in this textbook. If you want to self-teach, I can’t think of a better companion text.
Everything is clearly laid out in detail. It is oriented towards college sophomore and juniors who are also students of engineering or computer science.
Knowledge of calculus is not required, although there are a couple of examples that use calculus that are clearly labeled and can be omitted without loss of continuity. There aalgebra theorems and proofs included, but this is very much an applied example-driven book.
There is an abundance of diagrams and figures illustrating every point and example. There is currently a sixth edition, but if you can linewr your instructor, go for this linewr. I’ve seen the sixth edition and it offers no better a presentation than this one.
Has matrix algebra somehow changed in the last five years? I don’t think so. The following is the table of contents: Systems of Linear Equations 2. Inner Product Spaces 6. Eigenvalues and Eigenvectors 8. Complex Vector Spaces The book has something extra special – every chapter has a section that shows how the material just presented figures into the solution of an actual problem.
The following is the list of applications for each chapter: Applications of Systems of Linear Equations a. Polynomial Curve Fitting b. Applications of Matrix Operations a. Leontief Input-Output Models d. Least Squares Regression Analysis 3.

Quadratic equations Each of the first seven chapters also has two projects each which range from the very simple to the involved. I thought Linear Algebra was a fairly easy class, I believe this book also had something to do with that.
Simple clean, and lost of examples. I can’t stress enough how awesome the website is, for most of the early chapters, they have step by elementwry instructions on how to solve most odd number problems. I never used the rep help, but I thought that extra resource was truly helpful. One person found this helpful. This Linear Algebra book is kind of simple and basic but excellent for someone who has been away from school for a while and needs a very detailed review lniear needs to find out what Linear Algebra is all about.
It teaches each topic slowly, step by step, with worked out examples in detail, and has plenty of practice problems with solutions in the back.
It doesn’t have much in the area of technology such as how to use your TI calculator to solve the problems but offers instead lots of hands on pen and paper practice problems to learn the basics. If you are teaching yourself and learning linear algebra on your own, get this book. I bought it for my Linear Algebra class which was self taught, and the book was fantastic and very helpful. The concepts are explained clearly and you still get plenty of examples to algfbra understand the ideas. The one I received was in mint condition.
I found this book essential for my class. The book reads well, the karson are helpful, and it has a clean, clear format. My compliments to the author and editors! One of the easier math books to follow. Every category is explained well elrmentary gives good examples on how to complete the proofs.
